Christopher EasleyIn a probable cause affidavit, Christopher Easley, 31, admitted to officers at the Marlow police department he was irritated when he reached down and grabbed the arm of his 2-month old son and felt a pop, which “could have broken the baby’s arm.”
Easley has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse by injury after former conviction of a felony and is being held on $500,000 bond.
Saturday evening, authorities from Duncan Regional Hospital contacted police about injuries to a two-month old brought to the hospital and inconsistencies in the story given them by the child’s parents.
According to the affidavit, x-rays showed fractures to the femur (thigh bone), humerus (upper arm bone), lower arm fracture and three broken ribs. The child was placed into Oklahoma Department of Human Services protective custody before being transferred and admitted to the OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.
According to the affidavit, Marlow police detective, Tony Aguilera interviewed both parents Sunday morning. In the affadavit, the mother told officers she had seen Easley use a closed fist to push the baby’s stomach and ribs “because the baby was constipated.” She also stated she had seen Easley hit the baby’s buttocks to discipline the child, but she denied harming the baby herself.
In the affidavit, Easley originally told Aguilera the baby must have pinned his arm when he rolled over, but later confessed he became irritated when the baby began to cry. When he went to pick up the baby, he grabbed his arm and heard a pop. The baby “yelled and cried.” According to the affidavit, Easley stated he had picked the baby up by the leg and arm before with enough force to break the bones. Easely also admitted to using a closed fist with enough pressure on the baby’s stomach and ribs to have broken his ribs.
“Easley admitted to me (Aguilara) that he had caused all the broken bones on his two month old,” said Aguilara in his report.
In the report, Easley also stated he had seen the baby’s mother spank the baby’s bottom for discipline.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 13.
Easley has several prior felony convictions, is currently on probation and was released in Jan. 2011 after serving 14 months of a 7-year sentence for knowingly concealing stolen property according to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
