During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Marlow Board of Education,
Joe D. Hall was awarded the position of “at-risk” construction
manager to oversee the construction of an early childhood center funded by a $14.155 bond passed by area voters last September.
Hall is from Elk City and as the “at-risk” manager, bears the risk to
correct deficiencies if they do not meet proposed specifications.
“Mr. Hall was the best candidate of the three that we interviewed,” said
Coffman. “The board wants a quality job completed on our project
to help Marlow schools to continue to move forward,” Coffman added.
Hall provided 29 references of school projects he had done in western Oklahoma.
The board also approved the lease-purchase of a 30-foot by 60-foot metal
building for the off-season golf program. The $15,600 building will be
constructed by J&E Metal and provide a place for the Marlow golf
programs to practice during unfavorable working conditions.
The building will be north of the Marlow Gymnasium on the middle
school campus. The golf program will make payments to retire the lease-purchase debt.
High School Principal Brian Brantley brought to the board’s attention
the Bootleggers recent success. He said they work hard and received some recognition this year.
Brantley also noted that 49 students recently took the ACT test
and a preparation workshop will be held Jan. 23 at the Red River
Technology Center. The cost is $30 and the school will provide transportation.
Lastly, Brantley announced reports cards had just been sent out.
