It seems as if the 2008 election season has carried on for some time already.
But Tuesday will mark the first opportunity for residents in Stephens County, and across the state, to trim the field in a couple of local races, as well as some regional and statewide races.
Tuesday, polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters will be allowed to cast ballots in the party to which there are registered.
On the Republican ballot, Marlow voters will decide which candidate advances in three offices, while registered Democrats will mark ballots for two offices.
In Republican races, Duncan’s Tom Arnold and Central High’s Wayne McKinney are looking to advance to the November ballot in the race for county sheriff, and Kingfisher’s Rob Johnson faces Edmond’s Dana Murphy for the statewide position of corporation commissioner.
Four Republican candidates are vying for the position of United States Senator. Oklahoma City’s Jim Inhofe, the incumbent, faces Dennis Lopez, of Thackerville; Evelyn  L. Rogers, of Tulsa; and Ted Ryals, of Oklahoma City.
A run-off primary election, if necessary, is scheduled for Aug. 26.
On the Democratic ticket, Marlow’s Bob Hill will face Duncan’s Jimmy D. Williams for advancement in the race of county sheriff, while Oklahoma City’s Andrew Rice faces off against Midwest City’s Jim Rogers in the U. S. Senate race.
The general election, in which voter will also decide a number of different offices that did not require a primary, is Nov. 4.
