Betty Louise Graves, 85, of Marlow died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in Marlow.
Services are planned for Thursday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Marlow, with Kent Strahan officiating and Jack Graves delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Betty was born Sunday, March 11, 1928, in Marlow to Oscar Clifford (O.C.) and Bessie Delana (House) Sparks. She was a lifelong resident of Marlow and a 1946 graduate of Marlow High School. She later attended Cameron College. On Oct. 12, 1946, Betty married Jack D. Graves in Rockwall, Texas. Betty and Jack owned and operated Graves Drug for many years. Betty took great pride in caring for her family. She was an excellent cook and loved taking care of her home.
Betty was a member of the first Girl Scout troop in Marlow and was later a scout leader. She was also active in the Marlow Band Parents organization. Betty was interested in all things Native-American, and she enjoyed watching classic movies and reading biographies. She collected plates, hooked rugs, embroidered, and worked all kinds of puzzles. Betty was an active lifetime member of the United Methodist Women, a member of the ESA sorority, and a member of the First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dixi Graves; two brothers, Bernelton Jon Sparks and Harold Clifford Sparks; a sister, Alpha C. (Sparks) Spivey Lane; a niece, Corine (Spivey) Craig; a great-nephew, Monty Craig; two brothers-in-law, Claude L. Spivey and J.L. Lane; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Sparks.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Graves, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Dinah and Keith Leftwich of Marlow; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Sparks; nieces and nephews, Clifford Sparks and wife Pam of Kansas City, Mo., Jon and Irene Sparks of Platte City, Mo., Robert (Bob) Sparks and wife Rhonda of Kansas City, Mo., Judy Miller and husband Don of Kansas City, Mo., Pam Marcum of Tulsa, Beverly Lasley and husband Jerry of Novato, Calif., Nedra Krouse and husband Robert of San Gabriel, Calif., Susan and Jim Ferguson of Marlow, Claude Lawrence Spivey and wife Vicky of Duncan, and Galen P. Craig of Goddard, Kan.; and great-nieces and -nephews, Mac Ferguson, Lee Ferguson, Claudette Ferguson Foster, Robin Reimer, Shelley Craig, John Craig, Vanda Borders and Lesia Strach.
Pallbearers are Mac Ferguson, Lee Ferguson, Danny Foster, Jerry Samples, Keith Leftwich and Dinah Leftwich.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marlow Senior Citizens or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
