Cheryl Ann Belcher, 58, of Mangum died early Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2013, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.
Cheryl was born in Duncan on Sept. 29, 1954, to Allen B. and Helen Marie (Smith) Belcher. After attending Marlow schools, she held several different jobs until the late ’70s, when she began her career in law enforcement. Initially employed with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department, she later worked for the United States Marshals Service, in the investigative division and later in the air-transport division.
In 1997, Cheryl and her family moved to Mangum, where she was employed briefly for the Greer County Sheriff’s Department and the Mangum Police Department, retiring in 1999 because of declining health. An animal lover, she enjoyed car racing, football and spending time with her family. After retirement, Cheryl served as a foster parent and grew to love the children who were placed in her care.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her partner of 25 years, Hayley Wood, of Mangum; two children, Shelby Rodriguez and Jennifer Martin, both of Mangum; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dwayne Belcher of Texas, and Greg and Lana Belcher of Marlow; and many other family members and friends.
