Freddie Garrett, 63, of Central High died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his home after a yearlong battle with congestive heart failure.
A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Letitia Baptist Church east of Lawton. Burial will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery, south of the Central High community, under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Lawton.
Freddie was born April 6, 1949, in Marlow to Hack and Lois (Simpson) Garrett. He graduated from Central High School in 1967 and Oklahoma State University in 1971 with a degree in vocational agriculture education. He married the former Leola Cook, his grade school sweetheart, on Aug. 18, 1967. He taught agriculture education at both Wilson and Central High School before hiring on with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau in 1977. He had been employed with the OFB for the past 35 years. Freddie also farmed numerous acres and raised cattle in the Central High community. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Freddie was a lifetime supporter of the Central High FFA and supported all the youth active in both the Central High and Sterling High School FFA programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hack and Lois Garrett; his brother, H.M. Garrett; two brothers-in-law, Bill Davis and Clarence Mize; and a nephew, Gary Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Leola Garrett, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, LeAnn and Shawn Johnson of Central High, Sherri and Marty Curry of Sterling, and Lesa and Jeff Sparks of Central High; nine grandchildren, Aaron Johnson and wife Meaghan, Dillon Johnson and wife Casey, and Lindsey Johnson, all of Central High, Heath, Garrett and Makayla Curry, all of Sterling, and Jarrett, Christa and Kylee Sparks, all of Central High; two great-grandchildren, Brock and Jake Johnson of Central High; two sisters, Iva Mize of Burkburnett, Texas, and Betty Davis of Duncan; a sister-in-law, Sophie Garrett of Wynona; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Don and Bridgette Garrett of Marlow, and Terry and Kathy Garrett of Central High; two brothers-in-law, Jamie Crider and wife Tina, and Charles Cook and wife Janice, all of Central High; and numerous nieces and nephews.
