James Robert Brooks, 70, of Elk Grove, Calif., succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at his home, surrounded by family members and friends.
His earthly remains were donated to the medical school at the University of California in Davis, in compliance with his final wish in the hope of doing good for others.
James was born in Marlow to Clyde and Cora Brooks. He attended Marlow schools. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, earning a degree in architecture. Following a tour of duty with the United States Navy, he settled in Los Angeles, where he met the former Patricia Morse. They were married in 1971. James’ professional career was varied and productive; at the time of his retirement, he was an architect for the state of California. He was especially gifted as an interior decorator.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Cora Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Patti, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ian and Trisha of Newport Beach, Calif., and Randy and Jennifer of Carson City, Nev.; three grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bill Hanks of Atwater, Calif.; a much-loved friend, Mrs. Billie Woolley of Marlow; and numerous other family members and friends.
