Former longtime Marlow resident Jessie Robert Hines, 90, of Oklahoma City died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at her home.
Services are planned for Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Marlow, with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Jessie was born Sunday, Jan. 14, 1923, in the Central High community to William Barnett and Gertha Mae (Tuggle) Johnson. She lived in the Marlow area most of her life before moving to Oklahoma City two years ago. She attended school at Central High and graduated from Central High School. Jessie married Clyde Franklin Brown in September 1940 in Marlow. He preceded her in death in May 1945. On Jan. 5, 1947, she married Troy Kenneth Hines in Marlow. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1999.
A pastry cook, Jessie was employed with Taylor’s Restaurant for many years. She enjoyed quilting, watching square dancing, and playing dominoes and pitch. Jessie always had a large garden and often canned her fruits and vegetables and made jelly for her family. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. Jessie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; four brothers, Marvin Johnson, Elvin Johnson, Harold Johnson and Cecil Johnson; and four sisters, Pearl McGee, Florence McGehee, Eulita Ball and Norene Sheehan.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Loyd C. and Haydeé Brown of Oklahoma City, Harold W. and Cindy Brown of Oklahoma City, Elvin T. (Bubby) and Brenda Hines of Gladewater, Texas, Barney and Debbie Hines of Marlow, and Fred and Kim Hines of Marlow; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice A. Compton of Anderson, S.C., Maudean and Robert Wakefield of Edmond, and Bonnie and Rick Snidow of Lawton; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Lola Ruth and Joe Herrera of Duncan; three brothers-in-law that were brought up in the home, M.T. Hines and J.W. Hines, both of Duncan, and Freddie Kent Hines of Tuscarora, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Cathy DeRoin of Broken Arrow, and Freda Sharp of Bakersfield, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marlow Nutrition Center, the Marlow Senior Citizens Center, or a recipient of the donor’s choice.
