Mary Ruth Pointer, 59, of Rush Springs died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, in Oklahoma City.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs, with David Hale officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
Mary was born Thursday, Jan. 21, 1954, in Lawton to Millard and Rosalia (Irwin) Dunegan. She graduated from Lawton High School and had lived in the Rush Springs area for the past 37 years. On Oct. 1, 1973, Mary married Harold Pointer in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in October 1994.
Mary was employed as a waitress for more than 40 years in a number of restaurants, including the Golden Corral. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. Mary enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, gardening and raising watermelons. She loved her animals and was a former member of the Rush Springs Riding Club. Mary also enjoyed making floral arrangements for her family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her grandparents; and a special companion, Johnny Boswell.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Benita Pointer of Rush Springs, and Kevin Pointer of Nevada; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melonie and Tony Littrell of Rush Springs, and Kelli and Tim Johnson of Rush Springs; nine grandchildren, Kyle, Mickayla, Myleah, Markus, Gaven, Dylan, Tyann, Brandyn and Paisley; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Truman and Lee Henry of Aberdeen, S.D., and Sam Devinny of Lawton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Liz and Jim Norton of Rush Springs, and Maxine Douglas of Ponca City; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
