Norman Simmons, 63, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his home in Comanche.
The family gathered for remembrance and a meal at Grace Baptist Church, Ninth Street and Park in Duncan, after the morning services on Sunday, April 14. Arrangements were entrusted to Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika.
Norman was born Aug. 31, 1949, to Earl Thomas and Katherine (Bauml) Simmons. He retired from the City of Duncan after more than 30 years of service with the lakes department. Norman was the caretaker for Duncan Lake and the assistant lake superintendent. He was a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. As often as not, Norman could be found on his motorcycle, whatever the weather. However, more than anything else, he was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ who lived every minute of his life in service to Him. Norman was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Duncan, where he taught Sunday School.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Thomas (Tom) Simmons.
Survivors include his mother, Katie Simmons; two sons and daughters-in-law, Micah and Jackie Simmons, and Dustin and Kimberly Smith; a daughter, Heather Simmons; four grandchildren, Chelsea, Lilian, Lincoln and Destrie; a brother and sister-in-law, Mitch and Pam Simmons; two nephews, Jake and Brandt; and a niece, Brittany.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Grace Baptist Church in Norman’s name.
