Roberta Ann Day, 74, of Marlow and Duncan, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in Norman.
Services are planned for Friday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow, with Pastor Marty Gibson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.
Ann was born July 22, 1938, in Oklahoma City to Virgil Lee and Bernice (Rogers) Kittrell-Heflin. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1956. On May 30, 1959, Ann married Robert Day in Houston, Texas. In 1970, she returned to Oklahoma City, where she was employed by the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services as a computer operator. Ann enjoyed serving others in her spare time. She volunteered at TBN-TV and Elder Care of Oklahoma City. When she wasn’t busy working or serving others, she delighted in being a grandmother. Ann retired from OSDHS in 1999. Shortly thereafter, in 2002, she moved to the Duncan area and built her dream home. Later in life, she became known as Gigi. Then in October 2011, Ann suffered a stroke and moved into the West Wind Assisted-Living Center that December.
Ann was a charismatic person; she could light up a room with her smile. A stand-up comedian without even trying, she could have others in stitches of laughter and glee. She loved movies and movie star glamour. Her favorite actress was Elizabeth Taylor; and through she would deny it, her family thought there was a resemblance between Ann and the actress. Ann also loved music and dancing and often danced through her daily tasks. She loved George Strait and enjoyed going out to eat Mexican food with friends and family, with Don Jose’s being her favorite restaurant. She loved a good margarita. Ann had remarkable fiscal skills and enjoyed finding innovative ways to save money.
She was a member of the Assembly of God faith and loved the Lord with all her heart. She will always be remembered for her effortless humor and her heartwarming smile.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Day; and a brother, Don Heflin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tom Blathrop of Duncan; three grandchildren, Brooke Kriss and husband Brian of Woodward, Charles Remine and Miranda Cassidy of Duncan, and Samantha LeAnn Day of Florida; a brother, Morris Heflin of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Suzane Heflin-Carmichael of Edmond; and a number of other well-loved family members and friends.
