Ruth Evelyn Farmer, 95, a Bailey native and longtime Duncan resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, in Duncan.
A private memorial service is planned. A visitation is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at the family home, 606 South 15th Street in Duncan.
Ruth was born Dec. 17, 1917, to Calvin and Lyda (Bryson) Pittman on the homeplace in Bailey. She was the 11th child and baby of the family, but she was not spoiled in any way, according to her own testimony. Ruth married Tony Farmer on July 3, 1937 in Marlow. Tony preceded Ruth in death on Dec. 22, 2007, after 70 years of marriage. A longtime piano teacher, pianist and organist for Wesley United Methodist Church, Ruth’s love of her students and the music she shared with the world touched the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Ruth loved living life on her terms and being independent. This was possible through the care provided by her companions/caregivers, Anna and Dustin Summers. Ruth’s four-legged furry child, Fala, was always alert and loving, had to be with Ruth at all times, and is now mourning her loss. Ruth’s family knows the music in Heaven is sweeter, and that she is with their Dad, her love of 75 years. May the celebration continue on and on for eternity.
Ruth leaves behind a legacy of four children, Vernon Farmer and wife Sherry of Duncan, Michael Farmer and wife Andrea of Duncan, Donna Woodall and husband Edward of Duncan, and David Farmer and wife Brenda of Talbott, Tenn. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s name to Wesley United Methodist Church in Duncan.
