Tommie Darwood (Tom) Boatman, 70, of Bray died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his home.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church of Bray, with Bro. Harold Matheny and Bro. Lawrence Gresham officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain Park Cemetery in Mountain Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral Home of Ratliff City.
Family visitation is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Alexander Funeral Home in Ratliff City.
Tom was born June 21, 1942, in Mountain Park to Walter Darwood (Woody) and Opal Frances (Dodd) Boatman. He grew up in both California and Oklahoma, attending school in Velma. He and the former Carol Rielator were married on June 30, 1962, in Reno, Nev. They lived in California, Arkansas and elsewhere in Oklahoma before settling in Bray in the summer of 1978. Tom had been employed in the oilfield for many years and had also worked for the Bray-Doyle public schools in maintenance. His most recent employment was working for various farmers in the area, repairing their equipment and performing other farming tasks, which he enjoyed tremendously.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Opal Boatman; his stepmother, Ruby; an infant son, Walter J. Boatman; and four sisters, Cletus Boatman, Peggy Ponder, Lavita Clagg and Edith Delaney.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Boatman of Bray; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Boatman of Duncan, and Diane and Leroy Hill of Marlow; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwaine and Lisa Boatman of Frisco, Texas; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson who is on the way; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Ingrid Boatman of Fürth, Germany; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Rick Bowman of Velma; a stepbrother, Kenny Clagg and wife Kathy of Albin; a stepsister, Connie Scarberry and husband Leroy of Antlers; and many other family members and friends.
Pallbearers are David Ponder, Jason Ponder, Brent Perkins, Murray Savage, Markus Boatman and James Glidewell. Honorary bearers are Carsten Boatman, Roy Williamson, Steven Bailey, Stephen Ponder, Daniel Boatman, and all of Tom’s loyal friends from Bray.
