Vern S. Brown, 55, of Comanche died Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Lawton.
A private memorial service is planned at a later date in New Mexico.
Vern was born May 13, 1957, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Phillip and Evelyn (Curtis) Brown. He lived in Artesia, N.M., where he attended the local schools. After high school, he became a code welder and worked on oil pump jacks for many years. He also spent time as a roughneck on oil rigs. In 1994, he moved to Marlow and was employed as a welder for Sooner Trailers for several years, then worked at Cimarron Energy for 11 years.
Vern married the former Dottie Wilson on May 10, 2002, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They moved to Comanche and made it their home. Vern loved playing video games, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his grandchildren, family members and friends. He was known to have many collections, and he never threw anything away. His collections included knives, swords, Zippo® lighters, firearms and cross necklaces.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde E. Johnston and Malcom Curtis; and a sister, Anna Mae Corn.
Survivors include his wife Dottie, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Brown of Apache; his grandchildren, Kathen and Gavin Brown of Apache, Kaylee Pettijohn of Comanche, Emily and Michael Pettijohn of Duncan, and Josh and Christopher Hanmore of Duncan; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Richard Johnston of Albuquerque, N.M., and Phillip and Vera Brown of New Mexico; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Diana and Roy Brite of Grandy, Mo., Phyllis Chambers of Roswell, N.M., and Patricia Sterling of Artesia, N.M.
