Sponsored by the Chisholm Trail Arts Council, the event will offer six classes beginning each day at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 12:20 p.m. Students should be picked up by 12:30 p.m. No childcare will be available after that time.
The camp will culminate in an arts showcase on Friday, July 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds designed to allow students and instructors to demonstrate their work to their families and friends.
Instructors• Dora Obuobisa is an inspiring artist with a unique talent in leatherwork, batik, tie-dye, and traditional African crafts. In her return to Arts Explosion, she will instruct her students in tie-dye design.
• Dan Hazel, the art and photography teacher for the Marlow public schools, has participated in numerous art shows and taken home the top prize from many. An Arts Explosion instructor for a number of years, Hazel will be teaching pottery-making.
• Dave Young became a kite enthusiast years ago when he and his son purchased a kite kit. He will guide the students through the kite-construction process, introduce them to basic kite-making and decoration, and discuss the history of kites.
• Therease Dacus, a resident of Fletcher, has a love and talent for fiber arts. She has raised alpacas for the past 11 years and has spun the yarn for use in making jewelry, clothing and wall art. She will teach students how to create a design by applying fiber to fabric through the use of a barbed needle.
• Jana Oakman, who is currently a counselor at Waurika High School, spent 22 years teaching in the Duncan public schools. New to Arts Explosion, she will bring her expertise and love of painting to her pupils at this year’s camp.
• Joy Quiggley, a resident of Eureka Springs, Ark., teaches art to students in kindergarten through 12th grade at nearby Alpena. She will bring her passion for glass art to her classes by using recycled plastic water bottles. Her teachings are inspired by the works of Dave Chihuly. This is Quiggley’s first time at Arts Explosion.

Fees for Arts Explosion include class instruction and art supplies. The fee for students pre-registered on or before Friday, July 12, is $65. On the first day of the camp, the cost is $75. The fee is non-refundable.
Registration will open online at www.chisholmtrailarts.com in late May. Registration and release forms must be completed and returned. Each student will receive a logo T-shirt.
Registration is not considered complete until payment is received or a scholarship application is submitted with the registration form. A limited number of scholarships are available for eligible students, and applications may be obtained upon request.
