Two Marlow-area teens—Kelsey Shackelford of Bray and Timothy Davidson of Marlow—were recently inducted into the Stephens County 4-H Hall of Fame.
This recognition is the highest honor the county 4-H program bestows each year.
Kelsey and Timothy received their awards from state Sen. Anthony Sykes during the annual 4-H banquet held recently in Duncan. The award is designed to recognize 4-H members who strive to live and achieve the tenets expressed in the 4-H Pledge by developing clearer thinking, greater loyalty, service to others, and better living for their club, community, nation and world.
Their photographs will be placed in the Hall of Fame gallery, joining those of honorees from previous years. The gallery is located in the foyer leading into the extension and fair offices at the south end of the fairgrounds.
Kelsey ShackelfordKelsey
Kelsey, 18, is the daughter of Karl and Karla Shackelford of Bray. She was salutatorian of the Class of 2010 at Bray-Doyle High School.
Kelsey is a second-generation Hall of Fame inductee, following in the footsteps of her mom and two uncles.
She joined 4-H at the age of 9, showing sheep; and since that time, she has spoken to more than 500 middle school and elementary students about making positive life decisions and staying alcohol-, drug- and tobacco-free.
This past year, she accepted the responsibility for designing and organizing the first-ever Stephens County 4-H Recycle Day. In this undertaking, she worked with vendors and advertisers, and enlisted volunteers.
In addition to being a state project winner in Achievement, Kelsey was named one of Oklahoma’s Top 20 4-H members.
Timothy Timothy Davidson
Seventeen-year-old Timothy is the son of Larry and Janice Davidson of Marlow. He is a 2010 homeschool graduate.
During his nine years of 4-H involvement, he has completed a variety of projects in such areas as leadership, citizenship, electricity, woodworking and shooting sports.
Since joining 4-H at age 9, Timothy has adopted the 4-H motto, “Learning by Doing,” as his personal motto. This decision has led him to participate in activities on the local, county, district and state levels.
Through his project endeavors, he has learned the importance of organization and community service. He saw a need to find a fun way to raise money for the state 4-H community-service project, “Dime Drop for Humanity”; and using his woodworking skills, Timothy designed and constructed a doghouse to be used in a game for fundraising.
He organized the use of the “Dime Drop” game, which was played by other 4-H members, parents and leaders before county 4-H events, as well as by various local 4-H Clubs. Proceeds from the game went toward the support of Habitat for Humanity and the area animal shelter.
During the past four years, Timothy was often found at the Duncan Gun Club, shooting with the 4-H trap team. Through his growth and leadership, he was selected senior team captain. In 2007, he was named the state project winner in 4-H shooting sports.
As Stephens County’s newest Hall of Fame inductees, Kelsey Shackelford and Timothy Davidson truly represent the four H’s on which the organization was founded—hands, heart, home and health.
