Prof. Happy Hands, aka Jasmin Martinez, was on hand to teach students about making their hands happy hands. HOSA members performed a skit for the students that included Ms.Germ, who explained what might happen if the students did not wash their hands. Next, nursing students portraying ‘soap’ and ‘water’ appeared and washed Ms. Germ away.
As the students arrived for the presentation, HOSA members gave each a “high-five,” whereby they transferred powder onto the youngsters’ hands to indicate what germs look like.
After the skit, the HOSA members used a black light to illustrate to the children what germs look like on their hands. The kindergartners were then given instructions in how to wash their hands correctly.
The program was only one of the many community-service projects the HOSA Chapters adopt each year.
