The Marlow summer league baseball team split two home games earlier this week. The Outlaws fell victim to a comeback Monday to Lone Grove, but then mounted a comeback of their own Tuesday to pick up a win over Ardmore.
Marlow will travel to play in the Red Dirt Post Season Tournament in Washington beginning Friday.
Lone Grove 7, Marlow 6
The Outlaws could not hold on to a big early lead as Lone Grove scored six unanswered run in the latter innings to escape with the win.
Marlow helped out its opponent with errors to give Lone Grove extra outs, which they took full advantage of.
The Longhorns took the early lead with a run in the top of the first, but Marlow quickly erased it in the bottom half. Leadoff hitter Logan Knox scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Brady Melton followed by a two-RBI single by Austin Forsythe for a 3-1 advantage.
Marlow built on the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Knox singled and would score later in the inning on a wild pitch. Melton followed with a two-RBI single with Forsythe adding another RBI to his total with a double.
Kelby Richardson pitched the first four innings for Marlow, allowing just one run, but a combination of errors and walks allowed Lone Grove back into the contest.
Marlow was not able to muster any more offense after the fourth inning to counteract the defensive letdowns. The game ended with a Marlow base runner thrown out trying to steal.
Marlow 7, Ardmore 6
Thanks to a double by Kelby Richardson and two throwing errors in the bottom of the seventh, the Outlaws overcame a two-run deficit to pick up the win.
Logan Knox led off the inning with a walk followed by Anthony Green getting hit by a pitch. The runners advanced a base on a wild pitch before Richards hit a ball down the third base line to score Knox and Green.
The play was not over yet, however. An errant throw allowed Richardson to reach third safely and then another bad throw allowed Richardson to score the winning run.
The game started out slow for the offenses as the starting pitchers and their defense kept the other team off the scoreboard.
Ardmore broke through in the top of the fourth for a 1-0 lead, but the Outlaws came back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Brady Melton that scored Green.
Ardmore came back with two more runs in the top of the fifth off of Melton, but the Outlaws did not give up and scored three runs in their half.
Knox got a painful RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Preston Nunley from third. Green then followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Richardson then made it 4-3 on an RBI double.
Ardmore came back to retake the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Melton picked up the win on the mound for Marlow, tossing a complete game. He gave up six runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
