Evelyn A. Burton

Evelyn A. Burton, 96, of Marlow, passed away on October 2, 2017, at Gregston’s Nursing Home in Marlow. Services will be at Don Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan, on Friday, October 7 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.

Evelyn Tilghman was born October 31, 1920, in Jacksboro, Texas, to Fletcher and Flora Tilghman. She married James Dow Woolwine on March 11, 1937, and they had two sons together – Darell Wayne Woolwine and Bobby Gail Woolwine. James Dow and Evelyn later divorced, and on February 17, 1959, Evelyn and Hurland Burton married. Evelyn worked for JCPenney’s, Anthony’s, Ridley Packing Company of Duncan and Sweetwater, Texas, and Cable Meat Center in Marlow. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, going to craft shows, having garage sales, and county and western dancing.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elwayne Tilghman and his wife, Effie; sister, Verdean Blake and both of her husbands, Ralph Fuller and Deb Blake; and her two sons, Darell Woolwine and Bobby Woolwine. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her husband, Hurland, on August 22, 2017.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Deborah and Mitch Speck of Sandy, Oregon, and Diana Woolwine of Hawaii; two great-granddaughters, Jessica and Katie Speck; niece, Samara and Kenneth Smart; nephews, Elbert and Lara Tilghman, Fletcher and Bettie Tilghman, Steve and LaRonda Tilghman; sister-in-law, Marie Burton of Duncan; brothers-in-law, Randall and Nancy Burton of Marlow, and Vernon and Joetta Burton of Palestine, Texas.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 5, 5 to 7 p.m. at Don Grantham Funeral Home.
