A Memorial Celebration of Jean's life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at The Squirrel's Nest, 801 N. Broadway in Marlow, with Dr. Joe Ligon officiating. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Jean was born Wednesday, November 26, 1941, in Oklahoma City to Paul and Francis (Bradshaw) Baty. Jean married the love of her life, Bill Rich, in April of 1962, in Lawton and the two of them have shared over 55 years together. Jean was known for her positive outlook on life and encouraged everyone to slow down and spend more time outdoors and enjoy all that God has created in nature. She loved hiking and being outdoors as much as possible and it gave her great peace and strength to be outdoors. Jean studied horticulture for a time and worked as a trail guide for the Friends of the Wichitas for many years and was know for her knowledge of the plants on the tour and could always give you the scientific names of the plants. Once she settled in a place in Marlow, Jean transformed her yard into an outdoor oasis and shared it with everyone when she opened the Squirrels Nest. She was the owner and operator of the restaurant for several years and her customers were always met with a smile and a tranquil atmosphere. Drawing her creativity from her time spent in nature, Jean was able to express her artistic side as a painter. Her interests included being a member of the Marlow and Duncan Art Guild and also the Art club. A caring and loving individual, Jean truly loved to share her gift of art, especially through her handmade birthday and Christmas cards. Among a few of her other interests, Jean enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid ping-pong player and also enjoyed playing golf too. Jean had so many interests and God-given gifts to share, but what she loved the most, was spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Rich of the home; a son, Steve Rich and wife, Tracey of Norman; a daughter, Beth Ortega and husband, Travis of Marlow; seven grandchildren, Tori Rich, Mallori Rich, Rio Rich, Travis Harris and wife, Christina, Tanner Wright and wife, Krisee, Hunter Ortega, Makayla Ortega; and one great-grandchild Rowe.
