Daniel Lee Harrison, Sr.

Daniel Lee Harrison, Sr., of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at the age of 90. He was born on June 26, 1927, to William Doyle and Margaret Elizabeth (Shelton) Harrison in Cox City.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 2 p.m. at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs with Pastor David Hale officiating. Interment will follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Daniel graduated from Cox City schools and attended Oklahoma State University for a short time. He joined the US Navy. Later, he married Mary Evelyn Boyce on June 23, 1950, in Marlow. They had three children, Nancy, Twana, and Daniel Jr.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and hunting/collecting arrowheads. He loved taking photographs, painting landscapes and nature scenes. He played basketball while he was in school and later in life learned to play golf.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; his children, Nancy Huckby of Lindsay, Twana and husband, Doug Smith of Kingston, and Daniel Lee Jr. and wife, Debbie Harrison of Rush Springs; his grandchildren, Sherri and husband, Seth Morris of Lindsay, Leigh and husband, Eric of Apache, Danielle Harrison-White of Rush Springs, and Ryan Smith of Austin, Texas; his great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandsons, Shawn Smith and Christopher Lynn; his great-grandson, Harrison Elias White; his brother, James Gilliam Harrison; and his sister, Beryl Porter.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sonny Harrison, Bryan Bearce, Jesse Bearce, Monte Branum, David Maxwell, and Kenny Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers are Arman Webb, Sammy Richardson, John Maxwell, and Emmett Harrison.

Memorial contribution may be made in Daniel’s name to the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
