Richard Paul Holt

April 24, 2018

Richard Paul Holt, 63, Moore, gained his wings on Saturday, April 14, 2018, 41-years to the day after his Dad passed and at the same age as his Mom when she passed. Rick was born July 22, 1954, in Marlow, to Albert Franklin Holt and Lois Faye (Ballard) Holt. Rick attended Marlow Schools and went to Southwestern State University in Weatherford where he majored in Music Education. Following college, he lived and worked in Western, OK. In 1982, he married Donna Elena Kerr, and they moved their family to Moore in 1985.

Rick was a passionate and talented musician and he played many instruments, among them guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, keyboard, and drums. He played at local clubs with several bands including the Smokin’ Okies, Tucker, Plead the Fifth, Night School, and Killing Time, and toured with band Jesse Lynn and Silver Creek. Rick’s artistry wasn’t limited to music; he was also a skilled craftsman with wood and ink and had a deep appreciation for animals, gardening, and riding his motorcycle. For many years, Rick worked at Hudiburg Chevrolet and he referred to his colleagues there as his Hudiburg Family. Rick was a gentle, calm soul with the patience of a saint. He had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh, and an appreciation for takin’ it easy. He loved his family and his fellow man; his most recent motto, “I will make a difference” summed up his intention. He will be missed immensely by his family and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Dottie Kerr; and father-in-law Thomas Kerr.

He was survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; daughter, Taryn and husband, Andy Murrell of Moore; stepson, Shawn Tatyrek and wife, Carrie of Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Harper Lee Murrell, Charli Murrell (due in July), and Lori Penington; and grandson, Logan Penington; sisters, Tracy & husband, Rick Elkins of Houston, Texas; and Tammy Flippen of Huntsville, Texas; sisters-in-law, Casey Farrar and husband, Tom, and Jaye Coleman; along with nieces and nephews, a host of other family members, and his dear friend that he considered a brother, Lee Dewbre.
