Cyrus Mellette Jeffords

Cyrus Mellette Jeffords, departed this life on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, in Edmond at the age of 93.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Duncan, with Rev. Susan Lindley officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Stephens County Honor Guard. All arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Service in Marlow.

Cy was born Saturday, June 28, 1924, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to Sherman Lear and Gladys (Wheeler) Jeffords. Cy lived in Duncan almost 70 years after moving from Spartanburg, South Carolina upon returning from the war in the Philippines. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He moved his mother to Muskogee to be with relatives and proceeded to Duncan to start his career with Halliburton as an Engineer. Cy met Betty “Joan” Rollins at Halliburton and after her best friend set them up on the first date, the romance began. It culminated with their marriage on the CBS Television Network's, Bride and Groom Show on March 28, 1952. According to their children Julia and John, the most ideal life began. Cy and Joan had 65 wonderful years before her passing on August 18, 2017. Although Cy and Joan were involved in many organizations in Duncan and in their church, the real joy for Papa was his children and grandchildren. Countless hours of playing ball in the backyard trips to Braums, and the park in the silver Chevy van loaded down with grandkids. Evenings on the back porch in the swing listening to music and watching the grandchildren play- those are the times he cherished the most. Cy will be remembered for his genuine love of his family and chocolate, and those might be equal. He was a friend to all and made everyone-whether it was the next-door neighbor or a random Braum's employee- feel comfortable, loved, and accepted. He had an unmatched dry wit and sense of humor that was part of him until the end.

Survivors include a son, John Jeffords and wife, Diana of Edmond; a daughter, Julia Leifeste and husband, David of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, Jenna Jeffords, Kathryn Jeffords, Jordan Jeffords and wife, Jaide (and expected great-granddaughter, Eva Mae Jeffords), DeLauren Diaz, GianCarlo Diaz, Luke Leifeste, and Lauren Leifeste. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, Cy was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Collette Hair.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Jeffords, David Leifeste, GianCarlo Diaz, Ryan Haley, Luke Leifeste, Aaron Ray, and Philip Skinner.
