Jerl W. Green

Jerl W. Green passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in Marlow at the age of 92.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Jerl was born Wednesday, January 6, 1926, in Stephens County, OK, to James Monroe Green and Mary Etta Jackson. Jerl played on the state championship basketball team at Bray High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in the Philippines in WW II. He married his high-school sweetheart, Velda Parker, and they lived in the Bray-Marlow area most of their lives, celebrating their 70th anniversary in 2015. Jerl took tender, loving care of Velda when her health declined. He worked as a driller for various oil companies and continued cattle ranching in his retirement. Jerl loved spoiling his grand- and great-grandchildren, as well as gardening and fishing. Jerl’s kindness, strength of character, stubbornness, generosity and sweet spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry A. Green and wife, Theresa of Pauls Valley, Terry L. Green of Spring, Texas; a daughter, Marilyn Govich of Norman; eight grandchildren, Blake Green and wife, Kristen; Mark Green and wife, Angela; Milena Cornue and husband, David; Mateja Govich and wife, Stephanie; Nikola Govich and wife, Elaine Bransford; granddaughter, Krissi Quinn and Bobby; Kory Green; Reanna Lauritsen; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah Green, Micah Green, Isaac Green, Logan Quinn, Avery Quinn, Niko Govich, Mila Govich, Jelena Govich, and Charlie Govich.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Velda Green; his parents; two sisters, Bertha Monroe and Dortha McClendon; a brother, Monroe Green; and a son-in-law, Bruce Govich.

Pallbearers will be Blake Green, Mark Green, Mateja Govich, Nikola Govich, Elijah Green, and David Cornue.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Monroe, Tom Monroe, Keith Nease, Richard Glenn, Mike Ridgell, Lloyd Davis, and Kory Green.
