Bittman Makes Leap to SWOSU Team

by Elizabeth Pitts-Hibbard

Recent Marlow High School graduate Bailey Bittman recently signed a letter of intent to pole vault at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Coach Jimmy Dial has been working with Bittman for two years. “She’s a good one. I wish I’d gotten to spend more time with her but she didn’t start vaulting until about two years ago.”

“I wasn’t going to pole vault in college but when I stopped vaulting this season I really missed it,” said Bittman. “I was already going to SWOSU for college and I was just going to walk on, but then I talked to the coach and he offered me a scholarship.”

Bittman took first place at Class 3A regional competition this spring and fourth at state, both with vaults of 10 feet.

SWOSU Athletics' stated mission is to "develop future leaders by providing an avenue that complements academic programs and enhances students' overall education experience through promoting community engagement, personal growth, and development from athletic programs."

Bittman will train in Marlow with Coach Dial over the summer, and moves to Weatherford in August.
