Four Juveniles Arrested in Marlow

by Elizabeth Pitts-Hibbard

Three juveniles were arrested yesterday and one today on charges of Second Degree Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, according to Marlow Police Chief Leroy Walker. All four are currently in custody at the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department.

“We’ve been working on this over a month,” Walker said. “It takes a while to get the paperwork through.”

The suspects were the subject of an investigation into a rash of burglaries that have been reported throughout the summer in Marlow, including a break-in at the concession stand at the ball fields at Eddie Palmer Park. Walker said there were “up to twenty” reports of burglaries to which the juveniles may be linked.

Walker added that most of the burglaries reported involved breaking into cars and going through the contents. Cameras, cash, jewelry, and some guns have been reported stolen from vehicles.

“They call it ‘car-poppin,’ Walker said. “They try to find a car that’s open and they rifle through it looking for valuables.”

Despite suspects being in custody, Walker advised community members to remain observant of suspicious activities. “This arrest might have come about quicker if people had called [the Marlow Police Department] when they saw something,” he said. “If you see something, call us.”

Marlow Police are in the process of locating the stolen property. Anyone with information regarding the recent incidents is asked to call the MPD at 658-2122.
