Farmers Market Ice Cream Social Sunday

September 19, 2019

In celebration of summer coming to an end and the autumn season on the horizon, the Think Ability Duncan Farmers Market will be hosting an ice cream social on Sunday, Sept. 22. Fresh fall produce such as locally-grown okra, peppers, squash, sweet potatoes and more are already being offered at farmers markets across the state, including the Think Ability Duncan Farmers Market. This market also offers family-friendly activities and year-round favorites such as meat, jams, bread and packaged foods.

The Think Ability Duncan Farmers Market is one of more than 40 farmers markets across Oklahoma accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Senior Farmers Market Benefits, helping make fresh, quality foods more accessible than ever. To find your nearest SNAP-accepting farmers market, please visit onieproject.org/farmersmarkets.

Shopping at farmers markets is a great way to support local farmers and start healthy family traditions such as preparing homemade meals with locally-grown produce. The Oklahoma Nutrition and Information Education (ONIE) Project’s new “Choose Homemade” initiative encourages families to use ONIE as a free recipe resource when searching for ways to use market produce this fall.

“ONIE makes it easy to create simple, homemade, family-favorite meals using fresh market produce with hundreds of easy-to-make recipes,” ONIE Community Outreach Coordinator Jade Owen said. “Together, more families have the opportunity to enjoy Oklahoma’s great fall harvest thanks to SNAP-accepting farmers markets like Duncan.”

Visit the Think Ability Duncan Farmers Market on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 2301 West Beech Duncan, OK 73533. This will be a family-friendly event offering the best produce and food around. This market is open through October.
