Crime Stoppers Plan Family Fun Day

by Elizabeth Pitts-Hibbard

Stephens County Crime Stoppers offer rewards for tips that help solve crimes, and those rewards are funded by money the organization raises within the community. In the past, fundraisers consisted of dinners and silent auctions, but the organization’s vice president Gary Douglas had a different idea: invite the community to Fuqua Park in Duncan for a fun-filled day of music, games, an outdoor movie, and fundraising.

“This is going to be the biggest event the park has ever seen,” Douglas said.

The Cowboy Pickers will open the event at noon with the National Anthem and will play until 1:30, followed by other local talent. The Old Highway 81 Band takes the stage from 3pm – 6pm, after which the US Army Brass Band will play from 6 – 8:30.

A free movie in the park, Finding Nemo, begins at 8:30pm.

Activities throughout the day include a cake walk, tug of war, pumpkin painting, a dunk tank, sack races, and face painting. There will also be several raffles and a charity lock-up.
