United Way Application Process Open

Applications for membership in the United Way of Stephens County, Inc. will be open to qualifying organizations starting Oct. 14, 2019. Decisions regarding funding are made each year in February by a committee of United Way board members and community volunteers who will evaluate all proposals and tour prospective agencies.

“We encourage local groups to entertain the possibility of joining us,” said Helen Stewart, Executive Director. “Our mission of the United Way of Stephens County, Inc. is to improve our communities’ quality of life by uniting resources in support of programs dedicated to helping people.”
Existing agencies deal with basic needs like food, utilities and clothing, children and youth programs, counseling and referral services, domestic violence and sexual assaults, legal issues , developmental services and senior citizen programs and activities.

The United Way was started in 1954 by civic minded volunteers. The organization currently supports 14 partner agencies: CASA of Southwest OK, Christians Concerned, Douglass Senior Citizens Center, Duncan Area Literacy Council, Duncan Community Residence, Duncan Senior Citizens Center, Gabriel’s House, Girl Scouts of Western OK, HeartLine 2-1-1, Legal Aid Services of OK, Marie Detty Youth & Family Services, Marlow Samaritans, Safe Center and Velma Senior Citizens Center.

Completed applications must reach the United Way office by 4:30 pm on Monday, December 16, 2019 and are available at the United Way of Stephens County office located at 12 S. 8th Street in Duncan. For further information contact Helen Stewart at 580-255-3648. Electronic applications also available.
