Morris Lee McKay

Morris Lee McKay, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020 in Rush Springs, at the age of 80.

Family Only Graveside Services due to the Health Crisis will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at the Westview Cemetery, with Tim McKay officiating. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Morris was born Thursday, December 21, 1939 in Rush Springs, to William Carlie and Irma Lee (Litchfield) McKay.

He attended Rush Springs Schools 1st through 12th grade, Morris graduated with the Class of 1958.

On June 18, 1960, Morris married Deloris June McAdoo in Rush Springs. They moved to Edmond, where Morris worked his way through college at Central State College (UCO) by rough-necking and painting. He graduated from Central State with a Bachelor's degree in secondary math and science education. He later continued his education at Central State earning a Master's Degree in Counseling and Administration.

Morris began his teaching career in September of 1960 at the Chilocco Indian School in Kay County. He moved his family back to Edmond from 1961 to 1967, where he taught math and physics at Edmond Junior High School. In the 1967-1968, Morris taught at Duncan Junior High School. From 1968 to 1974, the family lived in Edmond. Morris served as High School Counselor at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City.

The McKay Family moved to Marlow in the summer of 1974. Morris taught math, science, and was a high school counselor until 1982. From 1983 until his retirement in 1991, he served as the Rush Springs Middle School principal.

Morris was selected as Teacher of the Year in Marlow Public Schools in 1978. He was selected Boss of the Year in 1990 by Rush Springs teachers and staff.

In 2002, Morris and June moved back to Rush Springs into the home of Dr. George Gaugher, the doctor who delivered him.

From 2002 until the time of his passing, Morris enjoyed traveling and spending time with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A favorite memory of the grandchildren of their PaPa, is the fun Christmas games that he invented each year.

Morris was a lifetime member of both the National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. He was also lifetime member of Phi Delta Kappa, education fraternity for educators.

Morris is survived by his wife, Deloris June (McAdoo) McKay. Two sons, Tim McKay and wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City; Devin McKay and wife Crissy of Edmond. His grandchildren, Heath McKay and wife Natalie, Ben McKay and wife Kristin, Logan McKay, Molly Inger and husband Cody, Tayte McKay, Annie McKay. Six great-grandchildren, Bryson, Remi, Carson, Maverick, Kennedy, and Jenson.

He is also survived by siblings: brother, Donnie McKay of Rush Springs, a sister, Karen Sue Selman and husband Larry of Mesa, AZ, and a sister-in-law, Donna McKay of Edmond.

 
Morris was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pete McKay.

Pallbearers will be: Heath McKay, Ben McKay, Logan McKay, David McKay, Steven McKay, and Jimmy McAdoo.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bill Kiehn, Tommy Cosgrove, Fred Fitzgerald, Bo Byron, Don McKay, Jr., Mike McKay, Brad McAdoo, Mitch McAdoo, Gale McAdoo, and Donnie McKay.
