Pitts Takes Helm for MPS Band

by Elizabeth Pitts-Hibbard

Marlow Public Schools recently announced that Matthew Pitts will be the next band director for MPS, replacing former director Billy Daniel in the position. Pitts is a 2015 graduate of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis on music performance.

At USAO, Pitts was euphonium section leader in the Drover band and a bass section leader in choir.

Pitts said he has already set goals for himself in his new position.

“First, to teach students how to be good people. Music is a great tool to teach great values like: discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and punctuality. Secondly, I hope to leave students with a love of music. I know that my passion will inevitably shine through while I am teaching. I will consider myself successful if students leaving my classroom are productive members of society with the spice of music in their lives.”

Marlow High School principal Bryan Brantley said that there will be a Meet the Director event on Monday, June 27 at 6pm in the Marlow High School Auditorium.

“We would like for all Marlow Middle School and High School band students and parents to attend,” Brantley said. “There will be a Band Parent Organization meeting immediately following. Mr. Pitts will be sharing important information about summer activities, band student and parent communications, and back-to-school information.”
