Joel "Joe" R. Barnes was born May 4, 1936, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Bob and Flora (Black) Barnes. He passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in Marlow. He was 86.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Terra Cisco officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be
Steven Barnes, Joey Barnes, Mike Clark, Andrew Spiering, James Spiering, Steve Blacksmith, Jay Christensen, and Liam Galey. Arrangements have been entrusted to

Joe attended a variety of schools in California. After graduating, he went to work in the automobile industry as a machinist on the West Coast. His passion was music; he loved music and played guitar and sang in some bands. Gospel music was most important to him. He also loved to do woodworking.
He married Anita Knight in 1991 while living in Oregon. After his retirement in 1998, Joe and Anita moved back to his hometown of Marlow.
Joe is survived by his wife of 31+ years, Anita; four children: Joey and wife Rose Ann Barnes of Newberg, Oregon, Kathy Troutman and partner Jay Christensen of Veronica, Oregon, Rachelle Galey of Georgetown, Texas, Leigh Ann and husband Mike Bateman of Forest Grove, Oregon; 10 grandchildren: Charity McGlothlan, Misty Barnes, Steven Barnes, Mike Clark, Andrew Spiering, James Spiering, Jill Spiering, Liam Galey, Michaela Rowe, Olivia Bateman; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Wayne and wife Carol Barnes of Helena, Montana; and sister, Nona and husband Clyde Nix of Sierra Vista, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight siblings: Robert Barnes, Ernest Barnes, William Barnes, Barbra Hall, Gladys Stallings, Mildred Lambreth, Forine Barnes and Ona Barnes.
