SW OK transportation efforts recognized at national level

Award presentation set for September

Southwest Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SORTPO), on behalf of the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) and the Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG), has been awarded a 2023 Excellence in Regional Transportation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for

receiving the 2022 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant to develop a Regional Transportation Plan for southwest Oklahoma.

"This is a momentous achievement in our ongoing commitment to facilitate an environment that promotes future regional transportation planning, economic growth, quality of life, healthy communities and investment through cooperation and engagement of stakeholders," said Julie Sanders, Director of Transportation for SORTPO.

The award will be presented during the 2023 National Summit on Rural Road Safety in Oklahoma City, OK Sept. 12-14.

"The Excellence in Regional Transportation Awards program showcases effective and creative transportation initiatives that improve accessibility, mobility, safety, and quality of life in regions around the United States," shared current NADO President and Northern Arizona Council of Governments Executive Director Chris Fetzer.

"Programs and projects like the development of a robust regional transportation plan fosters community and economic connections and promotes effective transportation networks."
