Mary Helen Latimer

Mary Helen Latimer, 82, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, in Duncan following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Marlow with Rev. Doyle Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services Marlow.

Helen was born Monday, February 18, 1935, in Coleman, OK, to John Edward and Ira Mae (Dossey) Perkins. Helen graduated from Duncan High School and was proud to be the first child in her family to have graduated from high school. After graduation, Helen moved to Oklahoma City and worked for a finance company for two years before moving back to this area. She then went to work for Halliburton as a secretary for the next 35 years. She married Buster McNight Latimer on October 24, 1980, in Henrietta, Texas. The two of them traveled all over with the Ski Club going to various competitions and events. Buster preceded her in death on March 26, 2012. Helen loved photography and working in the yard. If you knew Helen, you knew she was a giver of herself and loved to help others. She volunteered at various organizations including the Beautiful Day Foundation and was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow. She was an enthusiastic member of the United Methodist Women and a teacher for the Christians In Action. Of all of her activities, the one thing she enjoyed above all others, was being with her family. She was a writer and documented all of the activities of her grandchildren in books and even wrote down some of their funny sayings and various accomplishments over the years. She was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include two stepsons, Jamie Latimer of Oklahoma City and Jeff Latimer of Marlow; two stepdaughters, Jana and husband, David Oakman of Duncan, and Janice Latimer of Marlow; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie and husband, Lowell McMasters of Duncan; two sisters-in-law, Sue and husband, Art Wheeler of Duncan, and Joe Ella Dayton of Paris, Texas; cousin, Patsy Friar of Azle, Texas; and a Special Friend, Ken Belden of Marlow.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lee Roy Perkins, J. E. Perkins, L. J. Perkins, and Bill Perkins; four sisters, Wanda Malone, Lois Lemmings, Lurlene McCarthy, and Ruby Austen; and one grandson, Jarrod Latimer.

Pallbearers will be Mike Bray, Tony Haynie, Billy Varnell, Tom Troutman, Jim Fletchell, and Jerry Goodson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Heath, Kenny Gray, Dr. Bob Head, Joey Bray, Cody Bray, and all of her other ski buddies.
