Charles M. Stepp, Jr., known to family and friends as “Bud”, passed away on Sept. 21, 2018, at the age of 79 years.

Charles was born in Belmont, NC to Charles M. Stepp, Sr. and Inez (Bolton).

The family moved to Marlow, Oklahoma, when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Marlow High School in 1957 and proudly served in the Air Force.

Bud married his first love, Sharon L. Gooch, in 1960. They were happily married for nearly 53 years.

Bud found his second chance at love and happiness with his fiancé, Laura Payne. He learned to live, laugh and love again with her by his side. Bud (also known as “Chuck”) was the Lake Ranger at Guthrie Lake and a reserve officer with the Guthrie Police Department from 1974 until his retirement in 2001.

Bud often said that he loved everything about his life. He felt truly blessed and it was an honor for him to serve God and pay it forward. Bud’s happiest moments, were spent helping other people. If you knew Bud, chances are, he either fed you, or helped you fix something.

Bud is preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Stepp, Sr.; mother, Inez (Bolton) Fletcher; and step-father, Charlie Fletcher; wife, Sharon (Gooch)Stepp; sister, Jean

(Stepp) Barrington and brother-in-law, Jim Barrington; and great-granddaughters, Creason and Nora Cole. He is survived by his fiancé, Laura Payne; daughters, Robin (Todd) Summers; Dawn (Gerald) Reames; sister, Faye (Vern) Ogden; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. along with numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

A memorial service to honor Chuck’s life was held Tuesday at the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
