Rev. Clarence "Woody" McClendon

Rev. Clarence "Woody" McClendon, 80, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 in Duncan. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow, with Rev. Arbuary Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow. Woody was born Sunday, December 26, 1937 in Tracy, CA, to Clarence Woodard and Dona Mae (Whaley) McClendon. He spent the majority of his childhood living in various parts of the country and loved to tell stories of his adventures growing up. In 1956, Woody won the lottery when Susie said "I Do" and he was fortunate enough to snag the most loving, devoted, and committed wife in history. They were married on November 11, 1956 in Marlow, in the Methodist Church. Quickly after, Woody began his career as a butcher while simultaneously serving in the Oklahoma National Guard Reserves as a Sergeant 1st class and tank commander. Then at the age of 32, he answered the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He graduated from Texas Weslyean College in 1974 with a bachelor of science and continued on to graduate from Texas Christian University in 1977 with a Masters of Divinity. Woody went on to retire after 30 years of service with the United Methodist Church leaving behind countless friends he loved dearly throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Woody was a Master Mason, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, and was a Past Master of Carnegie Lodge #294. Woody was a preacher, joker, storyteller, and papa. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Survivors include, his wife of 62 years, Susie McClendon of Duncan, his children, Woody McClendon of Claremore, Jimmy McClendon of Duncan, Melody Hale of Gordon, TX, 6 Grandchildren, Angie Hale, Jennie Underwood, Randy Hale, Christopher McClendon, Jake McClendon, and Jimmy Smiley, 8 Great-Grandchildren, and a sister, Donna McClendon, as well as several nieces and nephews. Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Dona Mae Edgington and Clarence McClendon, his brother, Rev. Jimmy McClendon, and sister, Tressie McClendon. Pallbearers will be: William Martello, Jake Martello, Randy Hale, Jake McClendon, Chase Hammit, and Grady Underwood.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Madoc Underwood, Braison Hatley, and Ruel Hatley. Online condolences may be made to www.CallawaySmithCobb.com
