Marlow goes 1-1 at Lone Grove tournament's opening day

The Marlow basketball teams went 1-1 at the Longhorn Invitational on Thursday.

The Lady Outlaws, the No. 3 seed, opened the tournament with a 54-39 win over No. 6 seed Dickson. The Outlaws, the No. 6 seed, fell to No. 3 seed Washington, 64-28.

Lady Outlaws 54, Lady Comets, 39

Marlow took a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter before taking a 24-16 halftime lead. The teams played to a 14-14 stalemate in the third quarter before the Lady Outlaws pulled away in the fourth to get the 15-point win.

Macey Bateman had 16 points to lead Marlow. Judeah Valenzuela was second on the team with 11 points with Lauren Wade and Devyn Dennison with eight points each. Mia Meshell finished with five points, Jenna Wade had four and Elaina Kuhlman had two.

The win was the eighth in a row for Marlow (8-1), ranked 16th in Class 3A.

Warriors 64, Outlaws 28

Washington jumped out on Marlow early and cruised the rest of the way to the win.

The Warriors led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Marlow 18-1 in the second quarter to take a 38-9 halftime lead.

Cameron Freeman and Blake Harris had seven points each to lead Marlow. Houston Davis, Sam Ivory, J.P. Fortsythe, Andrew Brown, Parker VanBuskirk, Brandon Maldonado and Kolby Ladwig had two points each.

The loss dropped the Outlaws to 1-8 on the season.
