After Prom Fundraisers in Progress

by Elizabeth Pitts-Hibbard

Marlow After Prom Committee has two fundraisers currently in the works: a bake sale and share of the proceeds at a local restaurant on Saturday, November 16, and the annual smoked ham sale that wraps up on Tuesday so that orders will be ready in time for Thanksgiving.

On Saturday, Flores Mexican Restaurant, located at 213 W Main, will donate a portion of the day’s proceeds to After Prom, and the committee will have a bake sale in front of the restaurant during business hours, 11am – 9pm.

The annual Ham Sale is on the home stretch this week, with orders due on Tuesday, November 19. The committee is taking orders for hams that will be available for pickup on Wednesday, November 27, in time for the holidays. The hams are from Cable Meat and are smoked by Rib Crib; the cost is $50 and order forms are available from David Cooper at First Bank and Trust or Jackie Cooper at Tangles Salon.

The After Prom event, now in its 25th year, is held annually after Marlow High School prom. The goal of the event is to give prom attendees a fun, safe night of activities with their friends rather than spending the hours after prom engaging in risky behaviors. Organizers expect hundreds of Marlow students to attend as well as a few from other schools. “After Prom is open to all Marlow students who attend prom and their dates,” said Regina McKinley, who is the committee treasurer this year. “Even if their date attends a different school.”

Activities at After Prom include a hypnotist, inflatables, games, food, and a “money machine” wind tunnel.

McKinley also said that fundraising letters will be mailed later this month.
