Glenda Garvene English

Glenda Garvene English was born on November 10, 1943, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Garvin and JoElla Robbins. She passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, in Oklahoma City.

Visitation with the family was scheduled for Thursday, January 23, 5:30-7:00PM at Whitt Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 24, at 1:00PM at Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church, 278935 E. 1780 Road, with Kirby Kelly officiating Interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Garvene graduated from Marlow High School in 1961. She received a nursing degree from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. Following graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, William Ralph “Ralphie” Stone. On October 29, 1976, she married her husband of 43 years, Sammy Max English, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital and at McBride Bone & Joint Hospital. After her marriage to Sam in 1976, they moved to Meridian where she worked for Sunray Refinery. Her surgical nursing career continued to Duncan Regional Hospital, before moving to the Family Dollar Distribution Center as the RN on staff where she retired. She enjoyed oil painting and ceramics. Garvene loved to work in her flower gardens. OKC Thunder was her favorite basketball team. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved chuck wagon cooking with Cookie and Lee Roy Anderson. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandkids.

Garvene is survived by her children: Catherine and husband Randy Hay, Deana English, Robin Stone, Holly and husband Brent Green; grandchildren: Trey and Kindra Harris, Madison English, Kyle Hay and Kenzie Huffman, Max English, Hannah Dillon, and Camden Green; great grandchildren: Kasen Harris, Hagan Harris, Emerson Harris, and Louden Harris; sister, JoAnn and husband Jack Parman; and sister-in-law, Carrie English.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam English; and son, Trent English.

Serving as pallbearers will be Trey Harris, Brent Green, Kyle Hay, Lee Roy Anderson, Max English, Will Anderson, Randy Hay, and Jay Patton.
