Central High Graduation Updates

Central High School has recently had a few updates to their procedures for their 2020 graduation ceremony which is scheduled for Friday May 15th. Originally, the school planned to rotate groups of five seniors and up to ten of those senior’s friends and family into and out of the gym, however, now the school has decided to change those procedures some. The school has now decided to allow all seniors onto the gym floor together for one last time, while still observing social distancing guidelines. The graduates’ chairs will be spaced out six feet apart on all sides, allowing the graduates to gather together one last time. The procedure for families of the class of 2020 will remain the same, each student is allowed to have up to ten guests, who will have designated seating in the gym, and they will still be rotated in and out of the gym in order to watch their student graduate. The school has also decided to keep the traditional graduation procedures, they will still allow the Valedictorian and Salutatorian to give their speeches in person and the parents will still be allowed to watch them walk across the stage. Each student will have their awards, honors, and scholarships announced before walking across the stage and upon returning to their seats each student will receive four roses to distribute to family or friends in their group of guests, keeping the Central High Rose ceremony tradition. In addition to observing the social distancing guidelines, the school also plans to have hand sanitizing stations available for those in attendance, staff members will also be volunteering their time to help with the graduation procedures to endure the seniors and their families are safe while allowing them to have this momentous experience. “We wanted to make sure the seniors were able to be together one last time because that’s what they wanted,” Central High School principal Wendy Deiorio stated. Central High’s graduation will be held at the gym on Friday, May 15 beginning at 7:00 PM.
