Memorial Day Ceremony Planned

Stephens County Honor Guard in conjunction with AMVETS, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion host joint service organization ceremony

Military service organizations from across Stephens County will honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31 at noon at Memorial Park, located on the west side of highway 81, north of the Earl P Halliburton Memorial in Duncan.
“It is a privilege to recognize those who gave everything for our country,” said Dan Davis, AMVETS Commander. “We welcome the community to join us for a short ceremony as we reflect and give thanks for their sacrifice.”
The ceremony organized by the Stephens County Honor Guard and jointly hosted with AMVETS, VFW, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the American Legion will recognize those lost in each of the five military branches, as well as the Merchant Marines and POW/MIA through the posting of military service flags, laying of memorial wreaths, a rifle volley tribute to all past military members, TAPS, and remarks from area legislators.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms we hold dear,” shared Representative Marcus McEntire. “Attending this event, reflecting on what this day means, and praying with community members who have lost loved ones is humbling, in addition to being a huge honor.”
In addition to the event taking place at noon in Duncan, the Stephens County Honor Guard will host a ceremony at 10:00 am in Comanche at the Fairlawn Cemetery.
