Sunshine OHCE News

Sunshine OHCE met Thursday October 7, 2021 at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Jane Mitchell was hostess. Fifteen members were in attendance and Allen Mitchell was a guest. Linda Heilman gave the devotion on the need to plan today and not waiting until it is too late. The roll call question asked if everyone had a plan for the future.

In keeping with this theme, Sue Smith-Raska gave the Program on Wills and Trusts and discussed ways of avoiding probate.

Committee members gave reports and plans are being made by the Resource Management committee to celebrate the 100th birthday of Sunshine OHCE group at the SW District Meeting in March which will be held in Duncan. This will represent a century of learning and serving.

The group shared plans for the upcoming family picnic at Camp Waluhi’yi on October 23 from 10-3. The group will have hot dogs, chips and s’mores and are planning on a fun time with games and fishing. Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy what Sunshine OHCE hopes will be a beautiful fall day.

Another event coming up is a “Barn Quilt Workshop” which will be held November 12th and 13th from 9 am – 3pm and is open to the public. A barn quilt is a large block of wood that is painted to look like a quilt block. The cost is $30 for non-members and $20 for OHCE members. It is open to men and women who should bring a sack lunch with snacks and drinks being provided by OHCE. Call OSU Extension at 580-255-0510 for more information.
Sunshine OHCE continues to keep with the state goal of addressing hunger by bring food for the “Blessing Boxes” each month to be distributed to various boxes throughout the county.
