Samaritans, Volunteers Gear Up For Christmas Box Distribution

by Cricket Holland

The time for signing up to receive a Christmas Food Box from the Marlow Samaritans has come to a close. Residents had eight days in which to sign up and no one was turned away regardless of income.
The distribution will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 and end at Noon at the First Baptist Life Center on 4th street.
“Those who have filled out an application are to line up (North to South) on 4th Street. There will be firemen, police officers and MHS students to help with directions for picking up the food boxes,” said Carolyn Lowe, president of the Marlow Samaritans.
“Nothing has changed in the pickup process and we are hoping it goes smoothly again this year,” she added.
“Volunteers are needed beginning Thursday (16th) afternoon and then again on Friday (17th) morning to help sort canned goods. We will work until all the food is sorted and on tables,” she said.
“Then on Saturday morning we will begin filling boxes so distribution can begin. Volunteers who can help are encouraged to arrive at the Life Center by 8:15 a.m.,” Mrs. Lowe added.
“We have a wonderful community of volunteers. The high school students are always willing to help, as well as youth groups from area churches, the Scouts, and other individuals who have worked year after year and recognize the need of getting everything ready,” she said proudly.
Again, if you filled out an application form you will need to line up in your vehicle on 4th Street. Distribution will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18th. The only exception is for people who are homebound and those boxes will be delivered by noon.
