Samaritan Clothing Store To Re-Open on Feb. 8th

After being closed for almost 2 months, the Marlow Samaritans will open the clothing portion of their agency on Tuesday, Feb. 8th, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and will be open every Tuesday thereafter during those same hours.
According to Carolyn Lowe, president of the Samaritan Board, extensive remodeling has been completed within the clothing portion of the building in order to bring the store up to fire code.
“We were so crowded with carts, tables, and racks that it made safely exiting the building difficult if an emergency situation arose,” she said.
“It’s taken us longer than anticipated to remodel the area because so many of our volunteers came down with Covid or other unexpected illnesses.”
The new, although limited space, now dictates how much clothing the Samaritans will be able to properly display. They have always carried clothing for the entire family but will now only have items for children through youth sizes. (Infants, newborn – 24 months; 2T – 5T; 6 – 12; and 14 – 18 in both girls and boys.)
“Board members decided it was more important to clothe the children of the community and so we voted to no longer accept adult donations,” she added.
“Children out grow their clothes quickly and constantly need new sizes but we as adults tend to wear the same clothes for a couple of years or more,” she said. “This will give families an outlet to replace those clothing items.”
“Our community has been so faithful to donate “gently used” clothes to us over the years and we hope they will continue to drop them off at our box behind our building located at 214 West Main in downtown Marlow.
Mrs. Lowe stressed that emergency needs are still being handled in the same manner as always.
“If someone has an emergency needing help with utilities, food or medications, all they have to do is come to the front of our building, take a blank form out of the black box, fill it out and place into the slot next to our front door,” she continued.
“Phone volunteers work on Mondays and Fridays and one of them will contact the person who has filled out the form,” Mrs. Lowe said.
