Stephens County Humane Society Names Executive Director

The Stephens County Humane Society of Oklahoma (SCHS) is pleased to announce the official appointment of Kelly Nelson to the position of Executive Director.
In her new role, Nelson will advance the mission of the organization, to include community outreach throughout the county. “We know there are areas throughout Stephens County that we are not reaching,” Nelson said. “We want to expand our animal welfare resources to all of Stephens County.”
Nelson will also organize and initiate a capital campaign for a new shelter building and develop additional grant and financial resource opportunities.
The SCHS Board is excited to be able to fulfill this long-term goal of establishing an Executive Director position. “An Executive Director will provide the continuity and leadership SCHS needs to grow. There are opportunities that an all-volunteer Board of Directors simply cannot take advantage of”, said Michael Harris, President of SCHS.
“That one of our own Board Members is willing to accept this position provided an opportunity that we eagerly took advantage of,” Harris said. “Kelly will combine her passion for SCHS with her skills of leadership, administration and financial planning and lead SCHS in fulfilling many long-term goals.”
Nelson is a ten-year member of the Board of Directors and has lived in Stephens County for fourteen years. An experienced leader and advocate for causes, Nelson has the right mix of skills and knowledge to lead and grow the work and mission of SCHS.
Incorporated in 1983, Stephens County Humane Society (SCHS) is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a safe haven for homeless dogs and cats in need of a New Leash on Life.
Last year, SCHS provided shelter, food, medical care and love to over 1,400 animals. From newborn puppies and kittens, to senior dogs and cats, the shelter staff helps them all.
