Nona Jean Hatcher Talley Renfro

September 21, 2022

Jesus called sweet Nona Jean Hatcher Talley Renfro home on September 17, 2022 at the age of 89 in Duncan, Oklahoma. While we mourn, she is rejoicing with her Wilson, and all the family she’s so long missed.

A memorial service will be held at the Foreman Prairie House in Duncan on Friday, September 23rd at 1:00 pm. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Services.

Nona was born on April 24, 1933 to William and Stella Hatcher in Idabel, Oklahoma. The Hatcher family soon moved to the Hollis, Dodson, and Gould area that they would call home for the majority of their lives. Nona was the fifth of twelve children, illustrating the Hatchers lacked in neither love nor numbers. This abundance of love and family stayed with Nona all of her days.

On December 24, 1951 Nona married Wilson Talley in Dodson, Texas. When Nona married Wilson, she gained more than a husband and lifelong companion. The Talleys and the Hatchers, long friends, became forever joined. From this beautiful and tenacious union came five immeasurably loved children. In later years came twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Nona Jean to the world, Mother to her children, and Memaw to her babies, she beat the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and cancer. Whether dragging cotton sacks or carrying babies, she never saw a task that was too hard to handle, or too small to tackle. Nona loved to learn, devouring every written word she could find. She shared this love of learning and reading with her children, and her grandchildren after. Somehow, Nona found ways to make the most mundane things beautiful. She could name every flower in every yard, and knew what bird lived in every birdhouse she and Wilson built. Nona never saw a stranger at her door, or mouth she couldn’t feed. In the end, even Alzheimer’s couldn’t take her love for her family and her memories of those she loved.

Nona Jean Hatcher Talley Renfro is preceded in death by her parents, William and Stella Hatcher; her beloved husband Wilson Talley; her sons Stephen Joe Talley and Randy Keith Talley; her son in law Ronnie Percell; her sisters Gladys Stogsdill and Mary Bogle; her brothers Charles Herbert Hatcher, William David Hatcher, George Wayne Hatcher, and Gordon Dale Hatcher; and a number of dearly loved brothers and sisters in law.

She is survived by her son Wilson Herman Talley, Jr. and wife Dannielle; her daughters Debra Percell and Janice Patton; her daughter in law Paula (Binki) Talley; her sisters Jean Pogue and husband Gene, Ann Mims, Betty Novak, Lorraine Almstead, and Lameda Black; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; and more friends and family than stars in the sky.

Nona Jean will be missed by all, but the legacy of love and family she created with Wilson will live on forever and for always.
