The annual Marlow Christmas Parade is a beloved tradition that signals the holiday season is really here. One of the most asked questions the Marlow Chamber of Commerce office gets via phone calls and emails, is “do we have to pre-register?” New Chamber Executive Director Destiny Ahlfenger said that is not something anyone has to worry about. They only have to show up if they want to participate.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, a tradition, always held the first Saturday in December. Line-up is from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Seminole Ave., just one block south of Marlow’s Main Street.

“This parade is a treasured event for our community,” said Ahlfenger. “And the number of volunteers who do so much work is impressive to say the least. That’s what our community is really about, helping each other.”

Marlow’s parade has gained the reputation for having the best entries, from antique vehicles and tractors, to floats, horses and more. Pre-registration is not required. Parade participants can simply show up and volunteers will direct them where to line up as well as register them for the potential awards of trophies and prize money, Ahlfenger said. Tossing candy and treats is encouraged but definitely not required.

“This parade is looked forward to throughout the holiday season,” she said.

Those who love to watch the parade can line Main Street, and many families have their favorite locations they gather at each year.

While the parade is hosted by the Marlow Chamber of Commerce, it is 100 percent organized by volunteers. Almost 20 members of the community volunteer their time for this quality-of-life event.

“I’ve been volunteering since 2007 when I came to the Chamber,” said Chamber President Larry Johnson. “It’s a tradition that’s been going on for quite some time and brings the community together, and an awesome way to kick off the Christmas season.”

The float winners receive $100 for first place, $75 for second place, $50 for third place, and $25 for fourth place. Checks are mailed to winning recipients.
1st and 2nd place trophies are given for the horse division and horse-drawn division; 1st place trophies are awarded to the following categories: Modified vehicle, truck, original vehicle, Christmas Decorated Vehicle. Trophies are also awarded to the best: Decorated Off-Road Vehicle, Original Tractor, and the Most Unique Tractor.

Of course, the most anticipated float is the visitor in red and white. “As always, Santa is making a special appearance for all to see,” Ahlfenger said.

“As long as I remember, it’s been great for Marlow.” said Kyle Jones, Chamber Board Member.
