A conflict with basketball scheduling has resulted in a change for today’s games involving the freshmen team. This week is the Stephens County Tournament, hosted in Velma by the Velma-Alma Comets. Game time for freshmen teams, girls at home, boys away, have been moved up to 3:30 p.m. today instead of the original 5 p.m. time. This way the 9th-grade girls team can play at home against Bridge Creek’s 9th-grade team, then head to Velma-Alma for their first-round game of the Stephens County Tournament at 6:40 p.m., said Athletic Director Daryn Brantley. This was possible since the schools are out today for MLK Day.

Here are the scheduled times for today’s games:

Jr. High Girls at Marlow: 3:30 p.m. 9th-grade girls; 4:30 p.m. 7th-grade girls; 5:30 p.m. 8th-grade girls.

Jr. High Boys at Bridge Creek: 3:30 p.m. 9th-grade boys; 4:30 p.m. 7th-grade boys; 5:30 p.m. 8th-grade boys.

The high school girls will play at 6:40 p.m. at Velma-Alma.

Other updates in Outlaw Sports this week include:

Wednesday, Jan. 18 – JH Basketball vs. Pauls Valley (girls home, boys away) starts 1 p.m. This is a make-up date for games canceled in November because of weather. Games start early in an attempt to finish in time for the Marlow jr. high and Pauls Valley jr. high student-athletes can attend church activities later in the evening.

Friday, Jan. 20 – High School Swim Conference Meet has been moved from Lawton to Altus. The pool at Lawton is undergoing repairs, so the conference will be held in the Linda Wiginton Aquatic Center (behind the B-47 static display on the highway in Altus). Meet begins at 5 p.m.
