Catch of the Day

David Murch of Marlow caught this “near 20-pound” mirror carp while fishing with his wife, Trista, at Lake Taylor, June 5, 2022. He caught it using a crappie rod with a 4lb test line and crappie jig. “I like to fish as often as I can, I just don’t get to go as much as I’d like, seems like work always gets in the way!” Murch said it was windy that day and the best wind break they could get was near the dam. He was just going to see if he could catch some crappie bluegill or small bass. “I started throwing the little jig. At first, I thought I was hung up until it started taking line off my reel. Thankfully he took us into the main lake instead of staying up in the rocks and bush so I felt confident that if I didn’t get too crazy with the pressure, we could wear him down without breaking him off.”

Murch returned to that spot a week ago and caught some bass from the bank. He has more trips planned, including Texoma later this month; and to the Illinois river in May. “I enjoy all types of fishing but especially enjoy fly fishing.” Photo by Trista Murch

Editor’s Note: Send in your best Catch of the Day fishing photos with your story for a chance to be published in The Review. Murch originally submitted this and other photos for our Marlow Community Guide. Each week we will share a fishing photo with your story. Send them to news@marlowreview.com If you are sending a really old “vintage” classic image, be sure to share the story and date if possible.
