Report for Sunshine OHCE June 2023
Sunshine OHCE met on June 1, at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Dana Womack, Abigail Womack and Jonetta Wright were the hostesses. Dana presented a devotional entitled the “Watermelon Gospel” describing how the colors of the watermelon can be used to present the gospel. The thought for the day was “When life doesn’t go right, go left”. There were 24 members present and we were honored to have 4 guests. Gage Wright, son of Jonetta Wright, along with Bobbie Foster, Vickie Earnhart and Katherine McCaig from Wichita Falls, Texas joined us.
After the meeting, Ms. Foster, a former Sunshine member, presented Bonnie Kassner with a large box of flannel pieced quilt tops for baby quilts. Ms. Kassner belongs to a quilting
group who will finish these into quilts for Charis to help young mothers in need.
On May 9th all OHCE groups in the county participated in a program called “OHCE cares about Foster Care”. A “Sew In” was conducted to make pillowcases and drawstring bags to be given to Department of Human Services Foster Care workers to be used for personal care and hygiene items for the children removed from their homes and placed in foster care. These were colorful one-of-a-kind creations that will be the personal property of the children and OHCE will purchase personal items to be contained within these bags/pillowcases. To date 94 pillowcases and 87 bags have been made and others will be added to this number as the sewing continues.
Many classes are upcoming in the next few months and the public is invited attend. These are “hot bath canning” to include individual classes on pickles, jelly and salsa. The cost is $15 each.
